The Hong Kong Prize 2024

The Hong Kong Prize is an annual scholarship awarded to students whose excellent achievements in academic research and scholarship, together with leadership in the community, serve as positive examples for young people. Its winners have demonstrated the spirit of striving for excellence in a variety of fields, and have contributed significantly to Hong Kong’s development and the growth of our society.

The 2024 Prize ceremony was held on Tuesday (December 19) at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, with The Hon John KC LEE, The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivering opening remarks via video conference. The Hon KC LEE commended all the award winners for their dedication to academic research and study, and their commitment in helping society develop. He wished them every success in the future.

In addition to the three top prizes, a total of 12 awards were presented to students from various secondary schools during the evening. They had all conducted independent and in-depth research on a chosen mathematics topic under the guidance of their teachers. A Scientific Committee consisting of renowned scholars and educators reviewed the research reports submitted by each team. The teams that reached the final Oral Defense stage were invited to present their findings to the Scientific Committee in person.

Hong Kong’s thriving arts scene has won another international accolade after the China Daily Hong Kong Edition’s senior reporter Kate Li Bingcun secured a top prize and two 2nd runner-up awards at the 2022 Hong Kong News Awards in the Best Arts and Culture News Reporting category. Her three-piece series, which covered different aspects of the city’s efforts to become a cultural and artistic hub, included a re-imagining of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, a renowned opera that will take place in the 2024 Chinese New Year.

This is the second time that the China Daily Hong Kong Edition has won a top prize and two 1st runner-up awards at this prestigious news awards event. The newspaper also won a top prize in the News Features category last year for its coverage of a dispute between a local businessman and a Mainland company over the construction of a hotel in the city’s Central district. This year, it picked up 12 awards in all, including the coveted Best Scoop award for its series of articles on a controversial unauthorised structure added to luxury properties. Editor-in-Chief Tammy Tam congratulated the Post’s award winners and said their works are the “pride of Hong Kong”. She added that the Post will continue to work hard to enhance its journalism in the years to come.
