This is an annual award for the best piece of undergraduate writing that “most nearly meets those high standards of originality and integrity which Sidney Cox set for himself and for his students in his teaching.” Students from any major may submit their work, but it must be written in English.

There is also the Hillman Prize, which is a monthly award for journalists and writers who are committed to pursuing social justice and public policy in service of the common good. The prize includes a $500 honorarium and a certificate. In order to be eligible for the prize, the entry must be a published article that appeared in an American newspaper, magazine or news website.

The Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize is a great opportunity for young writers to get involved with the world of publishing and be rewarded for their efforts. Overland Magazine and the Neilma Sidney Foundation are partnering to offer this prize to writers aged 18-29 who write about something that is important to them. The winning author will receive $5000 and the runners-up will each receive $750. The winning story will be published in Overland’s autumn 2024 issue and the runners-up stories will be published online alongside the winner. The deadline to enter is the last Wednesday of each month.
